M&A Source Chairman, 2015 & 2016
It was my great pleasure to serve on the M&A Source Board of Directors for several years, including the years 2015 & 2016 when I had the privilege of being Chairman. During my years on the Board I was able to establish meaningful relationships with many of our association’s past, present and future leaders. Each one of them generously provided words of wisdom and a sense of camaraderie that I will always cherish.
A common theme among the leaders has been to always keep in mind the value proposition that we provide our members. When my time as Chairman came to an end, M&A Source benefits outweighed the cost of annual individual membership dues by a ratio of more than 6 to 1. The benefit to our corporate associate members was even greater.
Benefits that are built-into the cost of annual membership dues include free industry reports from First Research, peiServices.com’s easy-to-use, high quality corporate finance research database, ShareFile virtual data room, Pratt’s stats subscription and the M&A Source Express Finance Center. Substantial discounts were available from Avention, CapTarget, GoToMeeting & GoToWebinar, Hoover’s, and MoneySoft.
During my years on the Board, many initiatives were conceived and implemented. Chet Walden (2012 M&A Source Chairman) led the charge to create a relationship with an accredited university. That was accomplished when we executed an agreement with the Michael J. Coles College of Business at Kennesaw State University and created the Certified M&A Professional (CM&AP) five day program.
The credit for the accomplishments that were made during my years on the Board should not be attributed to me, but must go to those with whom I served. Many, if not all, of them were publicly acknowledged at one time or another when they were recognized as recipients of M&A Source Champion’s awards, Chairman’s awards and/or the Darrell Fouts awards.
I also owe a great debt of gratitude to the good folks at Meeting Expectations, our association management company. Their advice, administrative support, and professionalism were essential elements during my years on the Board.
The M&A Source has been a long-time passion of mine. It is my continuing hope that it will continue its success in serving a distinct niche in the lower middle market as an educational conduit to enhance the professional practices of our members.
