Dolliver Frederick, CBI, M&AMI
M&A Source Chairman, 2004
It was my honor to serve as the M&A Source Chair in 2004.
This was a time wherein setting apart and delineating the mission of the M&A Source as a separate organization from that of the IBBA was of high importance, as securing new members for the M&A Source was fundamental to its future. Our focus was to bring in other professionals within the M&A marketplace – accountants, lawyers, appraisers, bankers – those who would benefit most from the unique education program of the M&A Source, and the camaraderie with other members. We gained over 30 members during this year, which was very encouraging.
This was also a time during which licensing of merger and acquisition professionals became a significant topic of discussion. The "reality" of both the complexity and cost of security licenses, together with the operating costs of maintaining a broker dealer under FINRA/SIPC were hotly contested. However a working relationship was developed with the initialization of the SITF Committee, which assisted in funding an industry wide movement to have a delineated M&A broker license category, and the initiative continues today.
I was a part of the original founding of the M&A Source with Darrell Fouts in 1992, and have taken an active role to this day on committees (such as the STIF – Strategic Industry Task Force where I have served for eight years). I also participate as a conference moderator or presenter when I get a chance, or in any other capacity where I may be of assistance, as I care about the development and success of the M&A Source.
